Vaping Misinformation And How To Tackle It

As a business owner, it is your responsibility to ensure your customers are given the correct information about your products. This includes the product information, regulatory adherence, instructions for use, and its safety.

Vaping is still relatively new to the market and as a seller of vaping products, you are going to come across customers who feel unsure about the safety of vape kits.

You can adequately and professionally reassure your customers of your commitment to their health and safety. Here are some tips on doing so:

Know The Myths

There is no shortage of misinformation on the internet. Many people, including powerful supporters of the tobacco industry, will try to discredit vaping. Some of the most common myths about vaping safety are as follows:

1. Vaping gives you popcorn lung

Popcorn lung (bronchiolitis obliterans) is a condition that can be caused by the inhalation of the chemical diacetyl. This chemical has historically been found in certain e-liquids containing buttery flavours. In fact, the reason it got its name 'popcorn lung' is because it was first observed in people working in popcorn factories. This chemical is now banned in e-liquids. Meaning, if you use a reputable wholesaler like JM Wholesale, you can be completely sure that there is no diacetyl in any of the products you add to your inventory. If you customer comes to you asking about popcorn lung, you simply need to tell them that popcorn lung is caused by a chemical that is banned in vaping products and certainly not included in any of the products you are selling.

2. We don't know what's in vaping products

Your average smoker won't be able to tell you what's in a cigarette. This is because there are, quite literally, hundreds of chemicals in tobacco, most of which are harmful. Vape juice, on the other hand, contains very few ingredients, and we absolutely do know what they are. If your customer asks what's inside an e-liquid, you can tell them there are up to 5 ingredients.
  1. Vegetable Glycerin (VG)
  2. Propylene Glycol (PG)
  3. Flavouring
  4. Nicotine (optional)
  5. CBD (only found in CBD liquids)

All of these are safe for human consumption. The only chemical that can have a detrimental effect on the body is nicotine due to its addictive qualities.

3. Nicotine is harmful

Some smokers think that nicotine is the most harmful substance in their cigarettes and therefore don't see the point in swapping to e-cigarettes, given that many of these also contain nicotine. But this isn't true. The evidence shows that nicotine is not harmful to the body, except for being addictive. If your customers are wondering about the harmful effects of nicotine, they needn't.

Offer Transparency

A great way to reassure your customers of vaping safety is to offer clear and transparent safety information. When a customer buys from you, ensure that you mention your vaping products are fully compliant with regulations, and come from the most reputable brands on the market. If you can, offer literature on vaping safety from strong, reliable sources. Here are some links to resources offering accurate vaping safety information:

Furthermore, don't just offering transparency on the safety of vaping. Offer transparency on the potential risks too. For example, young people who vape could be at elevated risk of lung problems in later life, which is why it's important to age check your customers.

Safety Beyond Health

Vaping safety isn't just about your health but about the product itself. Some people have experienced exploding vape pens, causing accidental fires or injury to the vaper. If your customers are worried about this, you can reassure them of the following:

1. In almost all cases of faulty vape kits, the vape has not come from a reputable seller or been properly safety tested. This is not the case when using a wholesaler like JM Wholesale.

2. Vape pens are designed to be kept at room temperature, out of the reach of children, and away from fire hazards. It is the customer's responsibility to follow these guidelines.

3. Some vapers fall asleep with their vape pens, charge them dangerously or use them improperly, which is then a safety risk.
